Range: $19.00 to $26.00

Job Announcement

The City of South Hutchinson is looking to hire a City Clerk.  Primary duties include accounting, human resources and records management.  Experience in accounting is necessary.  The City Clerk is a salaried full-time position. Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the City Administrator, the City Clerk is an exempt position under FLSA.   Primary responsibilities include financial management, human resources and records management.  The City Clerk attends City Council meetings and assists in the preparation of the agenda.

Core duties include:

  • Management of the City Clerk’s office and staff.
  • Compile and prepare monthly accounting reports
  • Preparation for City Council meetings, preparing and distribution of council packets
  • Official custodian of the City’s official records, contracts, and public documents which includes the storing and management of such files.

Supervision

Works under the general supervision of the City Administrator and supervises the utility billing clerk

General Responsibilities

Maintains minutes of council meeting.  Serves as accountant preparing payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable.   Provides Human Resource services to city staff, which includes orientation and maintaining personnel records.   Prepares daily bank deposits and handles investment for the city.

Peripheral duties

  • Assists in answering phone calls and filling in when the Utility Billing Clerk is absent. Performs other duties as deemed necessary or assigned by the City Administrator.
  • Minimum Education/Experience
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • No Felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.
  • Experience with accounting methods and procedures.  Degree in Accounting is preferred.
  • U.S. Citizen
  • High school diploma or GED, some college or degree in accounting
  • Must pass a background check
  • Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well within six months of employment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Skill in operating PC and network computers, printers, scanners, and fax machines; learning multiple computer software applications; proper telephone etiquette and operation of telephone systems; analyzing data and information; producing high quality, high quantity result. Ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment and to act resourcefully under varying conditions; work well with fellow employees, supervisors, and members of the public; communicate effectively in writing and verbally; learn and recall quickly; maintain composure and confidentiality.

LICENSES REQUIRED

Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid Kansas driver’s license without record of suspension or revocation in any state.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The job may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, bending and stooping for prolonged periods of time; using various office equipment including a computer screen and keyboard. The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move more than 20 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
